Did you know that about two million are printed worldwide every year? Libraries are the core of knowledge in public areas. They provide books, movies, magazines, and more. But with such a wide variety of choice, children and adults are bound to come across things that are offensive and/or things that should be taken off the shelf immediately. Even with signs to show people what a section of the library provides, it's not enough to censor things that are offensive and not meant for a certain age group. Libraries should have censorship in what they provide or think about how having certain items on their shelves will affect the public. To begin with, having restrictions in libraries would guard students against racial discrimination and inappropriate materials. Censorships in libraries would also make parents feel better about what their children are viewing in the library. Materials found in libraries contain specific sensitive content like violence and segregation.

Without censorship in libraries, it would be simpler for students to get to these issues. According to Wikipedia, "Materials are often suppressed due to the perceived notion of obscenity. This obscenity can apply to materials that are about sexuality, race, drugs, or social standing." This segment explains that subjects like sexuality, race, drugs, and social standing affect the items that can be placed on the shelves. Items that carry these subjects should be censored or even taken off the shelf because of the elements they include. Since parents are not always at the library with their children, having sensors placed on certain matters will make them aware that they are not learning things that are not proper for their age. Conversely, not having censorship will make parents feel unaware of what their children are checking out from the library.

Censorship will also help underage students at the library from getting to items that contain racism and inappropriate subjects. It would also make the parents feel more conscious and knowledgeable of what their children are viewing. Additionally, having censorship will prevent certain groups, like religious groups, from getting offended. Some leaders or religious groups will get offended by certain information that is included in books, movies, and magazines. With censorship, there will be conscience on certain groups that will feel provoked because of ideas that are not faithful to their religion. A restriction on materials that have biased information on different faiths and religions will make peace and not make ideas that challenge the teaching of the of that religion. However, not having censorship on the materials will make them include biased ideas about different faiths and beliefs that will anger the followers of the religion. Censorships are a way to restrict biased information and tendentious ideas.

In conclusion, libraries should have censorship and be considerate when it comes to providing materials to the public. Since libraries have a wide variety of choices for the public, removing or censoring some books, magazines, music, and movies that involve offensive content would affect the libraries too bad. Being conscious about what is placed on the shelves would guide against racial discrimination, inappropriate content in youth, and overall make parents feel informed about what materials libraries offer.
